Don't pitch your tent toward Sodom!

With all of the problems that seem to be pressing on educators from every direction, it is difficult to remain positive. There are problems with budgets, tight supplies, talk of layoffs, and cuts in pay. There are increased pressures from testing, accountability reports, and AYP. Sometimes there are difficulties with students or even with their parents. Amid all of these uncertainties and problems, we as teachers would do well to remember Abraham and Lot.
In Genesis 13:12 "Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom".

We can choose to dwell on the problems, keep our eyes focused on the growing evil, and the coming destruction. If we do this, we will be as Lot with our tents pitched toward Sodom. I am here to say, things did not work out well for Lot. Of course we can not just ignore the problems, we must do what we can to combat them. While working to solve problems, we can not allow ourselves to be consumed by them. We must not focus on the negative; we must not pitch our tents toward Sodom.
